I can suggest a couple of authors, James Irvine Robertson's "The Lady of Kynachan" and Mary Duncan's "Eyes of Garnet". Both are Clan Donnachaidh members and their books are based around the '45 era. Mary's 3 book series starts in Perthshire and ends in Maine. James is a well know author, historian and humourist in Scotland and his books is based around his family history.

I'd suggest the Jacobite Trilogy by D. K. Broster as well as the Tranter books.

Wasn't that the series of 3 books about Robert the Bruce? Written by a couple of his decendents? Rebel King if I remember right.

My fair wife says check out 'Westering Home", by Audrey McClellan. She also warns it is a 'girl book' but not exactly a bodice ripper, and set in the islands in a more modern time. It does, however, have a lot of Scottish lore in it.

I haven't read it, but then I usually think history is interesting enough without introducing fiction into it. Just my humble opinion, and no reflection on historical fiction, but I don't have enough time to read all I'd like to anyway.

    Regards,
    Dan

Nothing beats Kidnapped in my book. Loved it since I was a wee bairn.
