These are my little problems. The Churchwarden in particular due to its length (I use this a lot outdoors, as I have set my hair on fire before today with a short pipe. To be honest the beauty of the meerschaum is they go better with age. They take on the impurities in the tobacco (actually making for a healthier cooler smoke) I used to have one near a cherry red when I smoked a different brand of baccy now these ones are going like an ivory yellow due to mostly smoking Erinmore Mixture. Kind of like an aged dark Ivory yellow.

Now, I smoke a pipe every once in a blue moon, but I'm afraid I rather doubt the notion of a healthier smoke. Really, if we're going to indulge our vices, I think it's best to just wallow in them.

Anyway, I don't know that I can help with the bag-and-carry issue, but I do love that multi-colored number you showed. Makes me want to get one.

I've got a pouch that came with my pipe, I would think using whatever case yours came with would be perfect. Of course your sporran may not accomodate such a case, if so then might I suggest a Freelander Sporran.

Trouble is the actual Chrurchwarden in about 9 inches long. (I have long hair and the shorter ones have a tendency to light me given the wind in the outer Hebrides) It came with a presentational box and leather case. Which makes it almost like a golf club head size. This of course has no attachment for kilt hanging.

The freelander would have to be massive to accommodate and that makes it not suitable for formal or semi formal. That's why I am leaning towards a largish pouch attached to the kilt belt. preferably way to the side or near the back.

But thanks for the recommendation. I might have to resort to a dirk scabbard with this stuck in the way its going I would get her ladyship to carry it but she likes purses the size of a hanky.

Sadly a meerschaum is very delicate you can scratch your name on them with a fingernail so maybe a bit more enclosed is the route. I thing that I will get a tool pouch that sounds best. Surely there must be a similar shape.

I am in the same boat as you are. I use briar and meerschaum church warden pipes as my choice to smoke with.

Freedom kilts by the Wizard in BC makes kilts with hidden pockets and he smokes, so he might be your man to contact? He may even be able to custom make a church warden meerschaum pocket into your next kilt?

Otherwise I think you might try a soft leather custom lined pouch that can attach to your waist belt (that can hook and unhook easily). I think McMurdo was on the right track there as something similar to a dirk frog/ sheath i style and look?

I only use my church wardens at home due to their size and I am not a fan of short pipes or cigars after being spoiled by the cool smoke of the church warden.....after all I am a pastor! : )

Best of luck, let me know what you decide as I may also follow in your footsteps as finally being able to carry my pipe in the kilt.
