Sure, Anne, I could rip the thing apart and start over again. The thing is, I simply don't WANT to. I want it DONE so that I don't have to look at this pile of fabric for another six months. From day One this kilt has been a compromise. The vendor shipped the wrong weight of fabric and I didn't figure that out for two months...I didn't open the package.

Anyway, the pleats and tapers are now done, and while they don't like up perfectly, they're not an absolute nightmare. I don't have enough fabric to make a complete under-apron so I'm going to have to tack on something for modesty's sake.

Seriously, I'm thinking about finishing this and then snapping some pictures when it's all pressed and hanging pretty, and then snapping pictures of the details of the inside to illustrate just HOW BAD something can be in the details of construction, and still actually look like a kilt (or at least a kilt-shaped-object) from the outside.

The hate mission continues. I re-aligned the worst of the two box pleats, and in the process discovered that I'd folded up one box pleat totally wrong. So I ripped that out and hand-sewed it. When it's pressed, it looks fine, now. The others aren't so bad...certainly not perfect but not mind-numbingly bad.

I put it on this morning and discovered that I missed a fold in the very first box pleat. No wonder the under-apron pleat was so big. So now I'll have to undo the blind stitching in the under-apron pleat, rip out about 6 inches of waistband, and re-do it.

Once that's done, all that's left is the right hand buckle/strap. I'm going to close the thing with a button on the inside....and, the final insult. I don't have enough material for sporran/belt loops so this kilt will have no loops at all. So be it.

Well, I'm wearing it, today. I still need to put on the right hand side strap, but the buckle is in. The kilt is pinned on me...how traditional. I'll see if I can get pics today, though they'll probably be cell phone pics.
