And on the subject of dress, I rarely go to church and when I do it's to a Catholic Mass where they don't give a rip how you dress, and I NEVER go to formal functions. This strongly implies that I simply don't own any good clothes at all. I do, however, have an elderly tweed jacket. Not a kilt tweed jacket, just a tweed jacket. Would this be appropriate or should I just appear in a nice shirt and tie? And a kilt, of course.

I think, under the circumstances, shirt & tie is perfectly acceptable. I don't get the feeling that this is a very formal event.
I'm going to wear my Argyll, but only because I haven't had an excuse to wear it out yet.
By the way, if you see this chap... he's me! Come up and say hello!

How interesting or disturbing, depending on your point of view. You look remarkably like me, except I'm somewhat rounder and have a longer beard. If you see yourself, that's probably me.

Well, I had a deligthful time at the Kirkin' last evening. I got to meet Dale (The Monk) and his lovely wife, who were able to attend from Ocala.
The service was a fine thing. Five pipers in a small church can be quite stirring! This was only the second year that St. James' has done a Kirkin' service. They did themselves proud and I'm sure that next year it will be even more impressive.
At the reception afterward, the food was plentiful and varied enough to suit all tastes. A delightful (and infinitely patient) young lady demonstrated some highland dance steps.
All in all, I had a great time and I expect I'll be returning next time around.
Dale's got the pic and I expect he'll be posting later. I have a camera, but I'm hopeless.....never remember the blasted thing's in my pocket! Why can't they build a camera that weighs three or four pounds and hangs 'round your neck like a Danforth anchor the way my old Nikon did? I knew that was there!

I most completely agree about the Kirkin'. It was a fine affair and I don't think I could have asked for a nicer group of people to attend it with, and I was very pleased to meet and talk with you. I second the motion on returning next year. I'll be posting the pictures this evening.
Good on ya for wearing your Argyll. The wife commented on the ride home that I'd need to get one so I could look nice too. Geez, I already looked about 10 times nicer than I normally look, but I admit I'd like to have one so now I have official permission. :-)
And for the record, while I did like the mutton haggis, the buffalo haggis ROCKED.

Well, I was going to but I can't get the pics off the camera. I'll try again later.

Finally got the pics. Don't know why the wife only took two, maybe she was too busy eating haggis.

I understand entirely! Your priorities are entirely in order. We'll get you an invite next year!
