    I think small brooches would look great as a buttonhole on your lapel for formal occasions. Looks out on ebay for cheap ones.
    I'd get one with a small gem in a colour that matches my tartan.

    boutonniere holder, thats what they are called in the United States... believe it or not you can get them at joann fabrics... they are cheap, but almost all florist have them! below are few links...
