Like F2BK I'm into the earth tones. Blue and Green are my favorite colors so most of my kilts have those as the major color. Green is for my Irish heritage and blue because I like that one.
I had to stop typing and go to my closet to look over my kilts and I saw mostly greens and blues. Makes it easier to accessorize also.

I tend towards darker jewel tones, but on Fridays I wear red to show support for our troops in general and specifically for my son. While he's now back stateside, I still honor his service.

I've been wearing my Black Watch exclusively, with my poppy, this month to show my support for the military. If I had red flashes or garters I'd wear them too. I'm glad to see the old yellow (from the 'tied-ribbon' cliché) dying out in favour of red!

I like either blues/greens or browns/tans. The blues generally win out except for daywear in the fall when I prefer the browns. I'll use my Ulster kilt (when it arrives) an awful lot, so maybe the browns are gaining.
I only wear black and/or blue for evening wear. And if it's black tie or formal, it'll be almost all black and white with slver mountings.
But then I would like to have a saffron to wear on St. Patrick's Day as a little joke that most Americans do not understand.

Our Society president always wears a red shirt with his kilt. Also he looks like Hagrid from the Harry Potter movies. We bought a Hagrid doll, painted it's shirt red, put a kilt on him and believe me, Everyone knew who it was!

I'm planning on getting the
Irn Bru tartan at some point because the local college colours are Blue and Orange.

Color Choices
In response to the original post; Yeah, I'd like black and gold too, (Steelers,) and only wish I had the luxury of getting a kilt to go with my Steeler's jersey, but there are too many family connection tartans that have to come first........never hurts to dream though.

Luckily, being a Fraser, one of the larger clans, I have a whole host of tartans to choose from within my own clan. My one and only kilt, so far, is a Hunting Fraser as in my avatar. I much prefer it to a Red Dress tartan.
To me, the blues, greens and browns just fit with the mountains surrounding Stratherrick.
