Actually, I had ordered two pair of regular kilt hose from L&M Highland Outfitters and they sent me two pair of piper hose (with popcorn tops) by mistake. I ended up sending them back and got the right hose, but I was very tempted to keep the piper hose. I did like how thick they were.
But isn't it generally considered inappropriate to wear piper hose when you're not a piper?

I think that question has come up before, and the consensus seemed to be that, no, you don't have to be a piper to wear piper hose.

The hose tops available around here are killer. That's the less expensive option, I think.
The long-term option costs at least 60 bucks and involves a pair of thick, knit to fit, Aran style hose...also available from people around here *! They're not as hot (temperature) as they look...really comfortable, actually. They are certainly hotter (feminine attention paid to your legs) than the thin hose, and really do a number for the overall presentation.
x2 what Shaun said about "piper hose"...and "piper" anything, for that matter .
*I will admit I picked mine up at a festival and got a deal...regularly 99$.
