To my eye, and depending on the specific characteristics of the man in question, it feel like the top would compliment an older gentleman, while the bottom would compliment a younger one.
That said, we know which one Rocky should go for.
Really though- Dark hair, dark tweed. Light hair, light tweed. That logic lends an air of cohesion to the whole person (meaning man+clothes).
[And sorry about the odd character of the above... I've been writing a SocPsych paper for the last 14 hours or so. I'm a little loopy.]

Ok...
I have dark hair, but I'm bald. I'm young-ish (32) but I'm decrepid (ask my hockey teamates).
NOW what? Hahaha

I've got jackets similar to both options that I wear to work (not kilt jackets).
I like both (obviously) but which one I wear depends on the shirt, tie and trousers I want to wear. Though I note that I tend to wear the bottom tweed (or at least mine that is similar) more than the top one as it more "subdued."

I don't think the top is too "loud" just more "pop" whereas the 2nd looks too busy. I think what's hard is we're looking at a swatch (right word?) and not the big picture. I find with tartan, it's easier to get a feel for it in a kilt, but with a Tweed - not so much. Look at it from a distance vs up close (that helps me anyway) figure out if it's too busy or not, and what it would look like actually as a kilt vs up close and personal.
Since there seems to be a concern of if yellow is your color - you should post pictures of yourself with the fabric

If the pattern will end up being as small as I think it will, then I would choose the lower of the two. I think it will mix into a very nice color. The upper choice seems like it might come out looking a little yellow. I've never been a fan of the color, but if you like then that certainly points you in the opposite direction of my suggestion.

Top one. I like the warmer colors.

i like the first one. it seems to me that it would be more versatile from season to season.

Since joining X Marks I have learned to appreciate tweeds. I have been haunting the local thrift shops looking for tweed jackets, I have found two that are just my size and brand new. One is going off to Virginia as soon as she finishes my formal jacket, soon I hope I hope.

Yes, I've seen them. I already have a solid charcoal and an estate tweed... I've seen MM full collection (I have the swatch book), but I'm looking for something a little different, hence these two.
