Yes I did ask. The student said there was no reason. Just that they wanted me to wear it. That is partly what made me suspicious.

I would be asking the same questions. Why do you want me to wear that tie or those slacks? I would be just as cautious.

Then don't do it.

The most important question is....are you tenured?

Seriously, it sounds like a legitimate request to me. It's amazing what the little grabbers will remember (but not the difference between transcription and translation in protein synthesis!) I can easily believe that they could remember the day you wore the kilt and honestly wondered why you didn't do it this year.

I am tenured.. I CAN DO WHAT EVER I WANT!!! j/k. But i am leaning towards wearing it because two other students have asked me as well. I also know their intentions are sincere (both have families that are heavily involved with KILT related activities, i.e. highland games.)
Also, it is not like I have never worn it to school. I am not sure what happened, I just have not worn it at all this year.

I would advise you not to wear it because they asked you to. Wear it whenever you want to. Students shouldn't influence a teacher's dress.

When I served as a substitute teacher one of the middle schools I worked at had a "Heritage Dress Day" where students were encouraged to wear clothing that expressed something about their ethnic background. Printed flyers posted around the building advertised, "For example, if you are Scottish, wear a kilt."
"The fun of a kilt is to walk, not to sit"

I say go for it, especially if you can make it tie into what you teach somehow.

Exactly. Keep the principal happy, or at least off your back.

The principal spent two years in Scotland. He has his own kilt. I am not worried about him.
