I vividly remember owning a coonskin cap and watching him every week.

A great actor. He embodied a depiction of history that it seems won't be seen again anytime soon- if ever. You know, where not everyone in western history was evil. He helped me be a better citizen and for that I thank him.

Indeed. Hadn't thought about him in years but now I find myself a bit sad. Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone were childhood heroes of mine because of him. (Well and the Disney Corporate Machine.)

Even with a college minor in history, when I hear the words "Davy Crockett" the theme song plays in my mind and I see Fess Parker's face. He presented a positive role model to millions of children and that is a wonderful legacy to leave the world with.

Davy Crockett, Daniel Boone, Old Yeller, and later on, Hell is for Heroes, are what I remember. I had a Davy Crockett coonskin hat when I was little, too. Fess Parker, thank you.
