Not only would I do that, but I would quote the tool directly, as you did here on the forum. Use his exact words.

Should've responded: "I have 4 words for you. Shove it. and My lawyer."

Coming from a manager's point of view I would go to the Manager that allowed you to wear it in the first place and let him know how poorly this lower level supervisor treated you and file a formal complaint. Stand up for yourself. This "army brat" has barked up the wrong tree. Don't mess with the celts boyo, or you may get the sword!

I have to agree with BrianK. You have a perfect example of why he is not still in the Service. Speak your piece to his super.

Remember. a whole nation once thought it okay to own other men as property. Just because he is loud and well spoken doesn't make him right.

Talk to his boss ASAP. He may just simply be ignorant and in need of educating.

I worked at Barns and Nobles in the past and know the chain is not always communicative.

All those stoners, dweebs and losers in High School didn't just die and go away.

They are the suck=up asses you have to work with and drive behind on the hiway.

Just cuz he has time in doesn't make him quality.

Oh my gosh, my blood is boiling just reading that. All I can say is that you showed more restraint that I would have been able to. I probably would have lost my job right then and there after sharing a few choice words. You probably did the right thing but I would definitely take the advice of the rabble, go over this "petty tyrant's" head and talk to his supervisor about the prior permission and the abusive, unnecessary rebuking. What a @%@$#&! My sincerest sympathy for you!

A typical military officer's career path would have someone make Major somewhere around the 10 year mark. If this fellow was a Major after 20, he likely had a setback somewhere.

I'm not sure what your discrimination laws are like in Wisconsin, however I would find out. I would definitely talk to the supervisor above who gave permission, and if there is a way to file a formal complaint I'd do it.

Out of curiousity were you in a tshirt and your kilt, a dress shirt and your kilt, what level of formality were you going for? The reason I ask is that I've noticed if I wear a shirt and tie with a jacket and waistcoat etc. I get less hassles than if I were wearing a tshirt boots and scrunched down hose. It sounds like you would be out of luck with this micro manager nevertheless, and it should not make a difference, I was just wondering.

I would complain to the person who gave you permission. I would also remind him of the hostile work environment that this "major" pain is fostering. Owning the book store sounds like a great idea at this time.

He may have been an officer, but he is certainly no gentleman. Even if you were running around in a loin cloth there is no excuse for him to speak to you that way. I am surprised that you allowed him to do so.
