In my opinion a kilt is a garment worn in the same was as trousers (pants to those over the pond) in that it can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion and a jumper would not be out of place at a Highland Gathering.
I've done it. Many of our customers have done it. Guys in the UK wear Soccer / Football or Rugby jerseys with it. Some people buy a tartan specifically to match with their jersey.
