A most interesting thread to follow, and I second the thanks to Paul Henry for posting a link to the thread covering his attendance at Buck House.
He was well dressed indeed.

The Crail jacket sounds good to me.
I attended Prince Charles' Garden Party at Holyrood in July 2002 and most of the male guests wore kilts.
I wore my Cunningham Modern 8-yard kilt with cream hose and red flashes, with a shirt and necktie, and a black Argyle jacket.
Can't remember whether I wore a sgian-dhu or not, though I looked out the information sheet which accompanied the invitation and it simply says "National Dress may be worn. Gentlemen Morning Coat, Lounge Suit or Uniform (No medals or chains of Office), Ladies, Day dress with hat or Uniform (No medals or chains of Office)."

Since the original question has been answered by people who know what they're talking about, will you please allow a question from me? What happens ata graden party, especially the Queen's? Is it a livley affair, with music and light cocktails, or is it a staid event with folks milling around making small-talk? Thanks.

It sounds like you are getting some good advice from lads who would know. Just be sure when the big day rolls around that you post some photos for us of your kit before heading in.

I've been quite surprised to hear that the Royals host such events. It sounds like a wonderful time and I would be blown away to open the mail one day to find such an invite. Makes me wish for older times when the world was smaller...

Thanks, Sandy, for the link. It looks like a beautiful setting for a beautiful (and LARGE) event.

Interesting music
I enjoyed the video and was particularly interested to recognize I'VE GOT PLENTY OF NOTHING from Porgy and Bess being played. No editorial comment about the Government expressed, implied or inferred.
