I was more put off by the clip-on bow tie. The kilt was a proper kilt in Black Watch. Not sure I'd have paired the knee high boots and tights with a Prince Charlie jacket. But, for a fictional high school kid, "Kurt" looked well turned out...sorry, just watched it with my wife and had to chime in.

Here's some of the pertinent dialog:
Kurt’s friend: Dude, that rocks, it’s like “gay Braveheart”.
Kurt’s Dad: I don’t like it. I think you’re trying to stir the pot a little bit. I think you’re trying to get some attention.
Kurt: Exactly, what’s the point of dressing up? I mean, that’s why some guys wear the tails with the top hat, and the girls wear the hoop skirts.

"Glee" is right about at least one part. KILTS ROCK!

Well I finally saw the episode, and I can't say that it was portrayed in a great light all the way around. I am surprised no one mentioned that he didn't wear a sporran... which I think is essential to the outfit as a whole. But oh well. No point or use being hyper-critical about it. But I suppose the whole "stirring the pot" thing makes the kilt look fringe--but I guess it is in a way. Just cause I grew up with it my whole life doesn't mean other people understand it.

The picture I saw had him in a prince charlie and it wasn't pleated all around just badly worn. Wouldn't it have been great if one of the STRAIGHT characters had worn it so they couldn't dismiss it as a skirt on a gay guy? I hate that show anyway.

Guess he should have worn patten leather, formal buckle shoes, and a real bow tie. Otherwise, it sounds very nice.

As to Glee being a bit melodramatic these days, my daughter (a total Gleek among Gleeks) has said that all of the kids her age are thinking that it's turned into an "ABC Afternoon Special", that it's gotten a bit too preachy and there always has to be a lesson of some kind taught in every episode.

It sure looked like light weight fabric to me and boy oh boy was it ever melodramatic. But Kurt looked good.

Melodramatic to say the least, Now as a Non-Viewer of this show I did fast forward through to see the Kilted parts. My 11 yr old daughter is an avid reader as is my wife, I mentioned to my daughter that there was a kilt @ prom, this was prior to the show airing and she asked who I said Kurt and she just laughed saying HE WOULD. Now again I havent watched a full episode so at the time had no idea of his character being gay, however I agree with the others posts that seeing as this character wears womens clothing often then this is simply looked at as another skirt. And to quote KURT it was an Homage to the Royal Wedding so theres nothing of Scottish Heritage involved. I hope I didnt step on any toes but I truly think that GLEE having a Kilted character does a dis-service to we who Kilt on a regular basis.

And Now I step down from my soapbox

I don't watch the show, but my wife and daughter do, so I'm somewhat familiar with the theme, characters, etc. We tape it so they don't miss it, and I screened it this morning.

While I was pleased to see the kilt, I wasn't overly impressed. Kurt, an acknowledged fasionista, "desecrated" the formal look by combining a PC with black tights and boots. (Yeah, I'm a traditionalist). While he made it look good, I wasn't fond of his choice.
