I'll second the opinion that once you try traditional hand knotted garter ties you will never go back to those elastic contraptions. The hand tied garters are so much more comfortable, especially if you are going to be wearing your kilt for any length of time. They also look pretty sharp too.

I'm also one of those who will never go back. I started with elastic garters/flashes because I didn't know any better. But I bought traditional wool knitted garters as soon as I could afford them (they are pricy!). Aside from being more comfortable and looking better, I just like the idea of them being more 'old school'. Men have tied their garters for centuries, just like they tied their shoelaces. To me, wearing elastic garters is like wearing shoes with velcro closure. I shudder at the thought!

I don't know what you guys are talking about...
First, let me say that I do want to get a couple of pair of real garters...I am a fan of the "traditional" and historic. That being said, however, I have never noticed a bit of discomfort wearing my elastic flashes. I made my flashes and elastic bands myself...and chose what I felt would be the most comfortable elastic...maybe that's the secret.
Regarding the ties...does anybody ever sell those things at Highland/Scottish games. I've been to two games now and have yet to see anything besides elastic flashes. I just can't seem to justify paying shipping for one or two pair of ties...wish I could pick them up in person somewhere!!

PM me your postal address and I will be delighted to send you a couple of pairs of garter ties. They seem to arrive un-asked for when I have bought shooting hose from time to time and I shall be glad to be rid of them.

The garter ties are SOOO much more comfortable to wear. After Arlen posted his instruction about knitting garter ties, I showed it to my wife. She has now made me about 8 or 9 pair of garter ties. I'll never have to buy any more.
Lucky you! I get mine from Big Mikey, and I, like you, will never go back to the elastic ones.

Well, the British style shooting socks do make for some kick butt kilt hose though, right ?
Yes sir, they do! And they're nice and warm in the winter, too!

Yet more evidence of the outstanding character of our beloved Jock Scot! Thank you to Jock for such a kind and generous offer.
Also, how can you not like a guy that has a John Wayne quote in his signature line!?!?
