On the plus side, the shops on the Royal Mile do promote the kilt as a symbol of Scotland and their budget priced outfits ensure more kilt sightings on the street. While setting my camera to take the photo of the mannequin I drew the attention of this tourist, who had purchased his kilt outfit earlier in the day. This was his first time out in a kilt and he said he would wear it often. The kilt police will have their criticisms, but I considered he wore it well for a first occasion. I told him about xmarksthescot and he was happy to be photographed with his good lady.

That first photo Alex is enough to keep MOR and Jock writing furiously for a week about all that is wrong with that mannequin!

For the second photo if it helps the gentleman become an enthusiastic and knowledgeable kilt wearer then some real purpose has been served other than to make a buck for those who sold it to him. The desire to make bucks is all too obvious in the top picture.

Looking at that "pet," I suspect that it is more Nessie than Tony.

Thumbs up, of course, to have another person interested in wearing the kilt.

However, I wonder if he might have been better served if his introduction to Highland dress was from a more traditional and/or reputable source.

But I wanted to differentiate him as a customer from those who were making the bucks (or indeed pounds) from him.
