Let me start by saying the last place I didn't wear the kilt was to my local Family Centre for some time because I was too shy. Didn't know what the moms and dads would think. Then a cold rainy day arrived and I was not going to suffer a frozen posterior so I strapped one on and off I went. I have since had many supportive comments and pleasant discussions regarding the kilt and Scottish culture. Now I wear a kilt nearly everywhere, even to dragon boat practice, something I've taken up this year and has trimmed nearly two inches off my waist in as many months.

when I wear mine it is out and about in town both shopping and just going out. I wear mine on the occasions when I feel like wearing it. My wife always asks why I am getting dressed up just to go to Walmart.

I wear my kilts whenever and wherever it feels right. There are no prescribed places or occasions for me, although I tend to gravitate towards my kilts when I'm going out formally (shirt & tie), to the pub with friends (just seems right), hiking (very comfortable), or to church (dressy and people seem to like it). But even those occasions I'm not dogmatic about...
I treat my kilts in much the same way as I treat most other articles of clothing in my wardrobe. It's just another fashion choice among many.

I wear my kilt whenever I just feel like wearing my kilt. My first kilt was a nice black kilt. Even though it's kind of big on me, I wore it to school a few times. Then I did find out it was a rather formal kilt and I wasn't sure about wearing a $125 clothing item to a place flooding with teenage idiots. Then we found some acrylic kilts on Stillwater Kilts that I kind of liked and were much less than $125. I have a Black Watch tartan and a Wallace tartan acrylic kilt. I switch between Black Watch and Wallace whenever I decide to wear my kilt. I wore it at school (now I have no school for three months because it's summer vacation! Weeeeee! ...*ahem* sorry) and just anywhere else. I don't wear kilts when I parkour though because law enforcement is sort of iffy on that. I'm pretty sure if I happened to "flash" or "streak" because of wind and movement lifting my kilt, then that wouldn't turn out well. Also, I don't want to snag and tear the kilt on a table or a wall or something of that sort. Other than that, I am not shy to wear a kilt at all. I wear it whenever I please and when I know it's appropriate.

Love to wear it on the golf course. If your self concious a ren faire is the exact place to wear it out around lots of people for the first time. You are by far going to be one of the normal people there lol

After the first few weeks of just wearing my kilt at weekends I now wear it all the time. (I am retired so no need to go to work). During the week casual with a polo shirt and lovat blue tweed argyllish jacket with brown horn buttons. At weekend I like to dress up a bit and wear the matching vest and a tie. Every 2 or 3 weeks we have dinner at my daughters and last time I wore my black argyll and vest with a bow tie. Just for the fun of it . Next time (just for fun) I will try out my lace jabot and cuffs and see if it works with an argyll. Yes Yes I will post a photo.
A kilt is fun.
Chris.

I've also worn a kilt for other casual activities, including mountain hikes with my family, trips to Disneyland, running the Warrior Dash, and visits to the pub.
A friend just started training for Highland Games, and is trying to get me involved in this. Obviously, I will go kilted for moral support, but may eventually try it out.
I plan to wear my tank to my wifes' 20 year high school reunion next month too.
See, there really isn't a right or wrong place to wear a kilt. Hope this help some of you out.
