I was eventually successful, but I was not at work. My work computer did not support the web-browser necessary. I was actually able to get in after switching to my phone...and again when I got home with a new computer system than we have at the office.
I like the circle idea...

PM sent, CDNSushi. I've been trying to get an invite ever since it launched. I'm a big tech buff too and Google+ sounds promising... hope it doesn't flop like Wave and Buzz did. It would be greatly appreciated if you could get me into this cool new night club 8-)

I thought about it. My biggest problem is Google's rather shoddy record w/personal privacy. They also use spambots to screen gmail. Have a friend send an email to your gmail account with an odd topic in the text that you wouldn't normally talk about...
car insurance, for example.
Pretty soon, you'll see the pop-up ads on the sidebar/top of you gmail page are "tuned in" to your conversations and are advertising geiko, or whatever other brand insurance.
I don't trust google at all with ANY personal info.

Keep in mind tho, this is simply directed marketing. They aren't keeping this data it's just using an algorithm. It's the same thing when you search for "blah" and get results in adwords that match your search.
Facebook does EXACTLY the same thing, when I'm talking politics in *private* facebook, I get political links. When I'm talking to my strongman buddies about a training day, I get supplement ads for protein powder and stuff.
The difference is that Google's are accurate, whereas Facebook's miss the mark enough that no one pays attention.
Facebook also has a much shoddier record with personal info. Up until about two months ago any person on the planet could hijack any Facebook account by using Facebook's own password retrieval protocol. It was so easy, I actually did it to a friend's facebook account when he swore it wasn't possible.

The difference is that google HAS been sued for stealing personal info (especially during their bizarre Orwellian "Google Street View" picture taking)
I also don't give FB any personal info, but, then, as my father (w. 30 years in computer systems administration) still says, "just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not watching you".

Yes, but you can always completely delete your Google account--something that Facebook will never let you do;

Alright, all. I've sent the next batch of invites. This time it was 5 or 6 I think. Since I'm starting to get a good number of invite requests, let me just say here on the open forum that I won't be replying to individual PMs unless it's a follow-up with a problem or something (i.e. didn't receive the invite)... The system makes me wait 60 seconds between each PM I send, and that's just a pain in the ***...
Invites this morning (my time) have been sent to: JiminDC, TheBlueCow, Joshua, R.S.L.kiltwear, and NorCalPiper.
Oh, and please remember to include your e-mail address in your PM. I cannot send the invite to your PM box. Furthermore, I don't know if my invites are being seen or getting through to non-Gmail users. If you're one of those who have given me a non-GM email AND have gotten into Google+, please leave some feedback here. Ty!

I got in at first try, JIPPY!!
I befriended CDNSushi, but I would like to get more friends in to my Xmarks circle. How can I find you all? Most of us here us nicknames here, but on Google+ we probably use our real names.
Skål!

You can find me here at X-Marks Oddern. I go by the nick "English Bloke" but my real name is John. Never fancied Facebook... or this Google version. Much too intrusive. Quite happy posting here thanks.
