    Here's my Campbell of Argyll kilt. This is my favorite Campbell tartan. Too bad it's not on the Duke's approved list.

    I wore a Government Tartan AKA Black Watch/Sutherland/Campbell kilt for many years but I don't have any photos... odd when I think of the hundreds of gigs I piped at wearing it.

    But here is Colin Campbell, born 1810, painted by Kenneth MacLeay in 1867:



    It's one of my very favourite portraits from The Highlanders Of Scotland. The very panache of wearing red and yellow tartan hose with that kilt! And the amazing sporran, brown-grey hair, with the cantle backing and belt of buff leather. While the jacket could not be more plain, more ordinary.
