If I may answer your question without infringing the policy on discussing weapons, the OP is wearing a Highland Basket Hilted Broadsword sometimes miscalled a Claymore (which is a much longer two-handed sword).

It's OK to talk about weapons as long as they are related directly to Highland attire.

And OC Richard, thanks for posting that. I'm sure it was a pain wearing that much kit but it looks magnificent! Would you mind posting your current, full dress piping outfit? It might be interesting to compare how things have changed...

Good lord! I hated wearing all that! I was in the Highland Fusilers of Canada. I to was tortured by the dreaded full dress. I remember the feather bonnet used to give me the most amazing headache after an hour of playing.. That said I never had to pay for a beer in the pubs if i was wearing No. 1 dress and had my pipes in tow!

I've never had the privilege (or displeasure depending on your bent) of wearing full dress. It does look magnificent. It is almost like the female problem with high heels. You are more willing to put up with pain as long as it looks good. haha
