    Re: DIY attempt number 4

Thank you Anne. The only thing I'd change is the white center front stripe. I don't tend to like having the most prominent stripe in the tartan as the center. It gives it the this side left and this side right effect. I prefer using the lesser dominant stripe between the two more dominant ones. I feel this gives it a look as if to framing your center between those lines. This is just my personal opinion and I don't really base it on any knowledge other than I just like the way it looks.

Thanks rir179. You can bet there will be finished pics when it is indeed finished. I will post progress pics when any progress is made. I've really slacked off once finishing the pleats. I'll find my motivation again someday.

    Re: DIY attempt number 4

My laptop crashed last week so I've found new reason to be productive once again. I've begun working again on this kilt. In the past two days I've finished the join, basted the hem, and finished sewing the hem to just past the apron into the pleats. I wish more PV came with a selvedge. Stitching a hem sucks! No real progress that could be shown with pictures yet. I'll probably post more once I get the pleats basted. Stay tuned.

    Re: DIY attempt number 4

I finally got off my *** this weekend and got some work done. I finished putting in the canvas and making the facings and fringe. I sewed the waistband and pressed it last night and let it dry overnight. Now I need to attach the buckles and straps and sew the lining and I can finally be done.

Wow, your basting stitches are picture perfect. My stitches on the stabilizer band always look like I was drunk when I did it. I think it is the "sewing it towards yourself" direction that makes me lose all control.
And yes, hemming does suck, or at least used to; now that I have a blind stitch hemmer!!! Can't wait to see it finished and modeled!
