    Re: Modded high-tops!

Come now, Aspiringloser... tartan laces? I don't want to go over the top here!

    *crickets*

Um, perhaps it's a little late for that...

Now, if I got these little beauties and coloured the green bits purple, I think I'd be good to go!

Those are just too cool for words.

As wide as my feet (and shoes) are, I'd have to start making decisions about pleating to the sett or stripe. . .

Heh heh - alas, with tartan, there are always going to be lines in the design pointing across your foot in some way. Just accept it! At least you'll have a nice broad canvas for your art.

    Re: Modded high-tops!

OK, put clear gloss nail varnish on one panel of the design last night, and left it to dry. Just checked it, and it looks as if it won't need the matte top-coat - it's settled into a really nice satiny finish.
Should keep the pen work looking nice, and also should be easy to touch up or refinish if needed.

    Exceptionally clever.

Another possibility for an overcoat might be either acrylic spray varnish or artists' spray fixative. Mask off parts not wished to be sprayed with low-tack blue tape.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too cool for school! Fanbl00dytastic!

Wear those shoes with pride, and hope to heck that they won't run (*rimshot*)... in the rain.

P.S. Now we need a picture of them being worn, so we can see how they go with the kilt.

    Re: Modded high-tops!

Hmm, finally took courage in my hands, wet my finger and rubbed the pattern hard - ever so slight fading of the colour and transfer of pigment to my finger... hmmmm.... not bad, but I may go over the design with clear nail polish to be sure. Was thinking PVA glue or polyurethane spray varnish, but they go cloudy and whitish when they get wet.
I think a matte top layer nail polish should work.
