I'd imagine it's knitted flat as a separate cuff, then sewn on. I hope to take a bunch of my wool socks down to the local knitting store, get some matching yarn, and make cable-knit patches to attach to the tops some time in the next couple of months.

Thank you and yes, you are correct. I did mean complementary.

That may be so, but the manufacturer of the pink hose colour in question, House of Cheviot, refers to them as 'dusty pink.' Not trying to be overly technical, just saying.

More than anything, I love the big, chunky cable-knitting on the cuffs of his hose. It's usually far more subtle than that.
I love how wrinkly and worn in those ghillie brogues look in that pic. I'm a sucker for well used and cared for leather!!!

I suggested pink garters to Riverkilt the other day, though he had also been griping about pink Lewis hose where there were no tan hose. I wasn't sure which tartan would work with the pink. Sounds like maybe his IOS tartan might work?
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Well, HoC's decision not to knit tan/khaki kilt hose aside....I'm afraid I have to say that the "King is naked."
I only had one semester of Color and Composition as part of my minor in textiles. But also had to learn the color wheel as part of basic art class in college...and, maybe its my monitor or something, but I just don't see the "pink" working with the blues and greens in the kilt.
Yes, others may see it as working, but I don't. Don't see the "pink" kilt hose as doing anything but drawing the eye away from the tartan. At first glance I wondered if perhaps the Duke was color blind (a question pondered, not meant to insult), or if those were his "lucky" kilt hose.
Just my opinion...nothing more.

I wouldn't know, Ron, I just have to go by the comments about the picture.
All I know is most pinks don't go well with my skin tone type. If I could find a shade that went well, I would wear it.

I recenly purchased a nice pair of pink traditional garter ties at a very good (sale) price from Timothy at House of Labhran. I love them, especially with my new 'dark natural' coloured Lewis hose from House of Cheviot.
Cheers,

Thanks for your opinion mate, it is much appreciated and valued.
I studied colour theory in extreme detail, as it pertains to fine art, and possess an undergraduate degree (B.F.A.) in anatomy drawing, oil painting, and a minor in art history, so let's just say I know how colours work with oneanother and how some don't.
In regards to His Grace, my opinion is that the pink hose work because they contrast well with the darker colours of his kilt. Pink is a warm colour and a variant (a tint - large amounts of white is added to red) of the primary colour of red, and red is a complementary colour green, and as you know, green is directly opposite of red on the colour wheel. Complementary colours work well together and are typically 'pleasing to the eye' - whatever the shade or tint of each colour.
In my opinion, the Campbell tartan is a fairly simple sett design, with the colours being pretty straight-forward and typically dark, even in the lighter 'ancient' colours, the overall effect is still relatively dark. I think the brightness of the pink kilt hose give the overall outfit a wee bit more 'life' without be overly ostentatious. I also believe the pink kilt hose reinforce the beauty and simplicity of the Campbell tartan.
Cheers,
