Re: Seaside Stroll Today
I've seen that tartan over and over - in the movie and since, but never eyeballed it. Always thought it was sort of a dull colored tartan. But DANG! - that pic shows colors that blast out from the cloth. I really really like it. Made my wish list.
Thank you for the post. As with so many tartans their true beauty is hard to capture with a camera, but every once in a while when the light is right we get to see on line what we'd see in an instant in person.
Remind me - custom weave or is some mill carrying the cloth. Know there was some info on another thread but not sure where to look. Will try the search feature but think it won't do three letters, maybe run together RobRoy...
And, as mentioned the composition of the pic is fantastic too.

Re: Seaside Stroll Today
Thanks for the kind words, all!
I find this tweed feels softer and more "relaxed" than worsted twill-woven fabric. Not better or worse, just different -- and I like it!
It's been mentioned elsewhere, but the fabric is from the Islay Woollen Mill, which apparently does a lot of movie stuff:
http://www.islaywoollenmill.co.uk/media.html
I had the fabric for several years as a 5-yard "great kilt" from TartanWeb, but never got around to wearing it even once. Eventually I realized I'd probably wear it a LOT as a modern tailored kilt, so. . .
For the best close-up of the colors see the pleat-shot (taken by Matt before shipping) in the FB album linked in my first post.
Mickey - a breakdown on some of the "accessories": Blackthorn staff from Olde Shillelagh Stickmakers in Co. Wicklow; Serengeti "Velocity" sunglasses with "Drivers Gradient" polarized lenses; "buckskin" color moleskin shirt from Cabelas; "bison" Lewis hose and Ancient Blue garter ties from STM; bespoke stag-handled sgian from Taygrd here at Xmarks; "Earthkeepers" boots from Timberland; "Glen Shira Mor" sporran from Ferguson Britt/STM.
I mention all that mainly to show how much of it is due to contacts and references gained through Xmarks: The resources here are fanfreakin'tastic!!

Re: Seaside Stroll Today
Wow - one soo many levels. First, ya look great - kilt hiking is great. Second, brings back memories of home. If you'll look closely in the last point, you'll see the tip of a lighthouse behind a big white building. This, was my residence while growing up! At the time, it was Point Montara Lighthouse Station - its now a Youth Hostel.
Didn't mean to focus attention away from the kilt, but I was soo brought back to my youth by the background....

One more comment about the nature of the fabric itself, while I think on it. I tried to make a point of letting my lass set the pace; but on the return leg she spent a lot of the time following me. When I asked her if she was tired and wanted to take a rest break, she confided that she'd merely been checking out the swish. Apparently it's just fine with this cloth, at least in a 6-yard knife-pleated kilt.

Oh, now that kilt is a thing of beauty! Don't know how I missed this thread, when it first kicked up, but you're looking sharp, Seago sensei.
