I, too, prefer David's version, primarily because it is lighter to the eye. Your version, while (maybe) proportionately correct, is very dark to my eye. I think I would switch the dark and light blues, thus rendering it somewhat lighter and more pleasing (to me, anyway). As I look at the dress blues, I see more trouser than jacket. While this may not be the actual fact (I didn't measure), it is, and has always been, my impression. So, from that perspective comes my preference.
However, I would proudly wear either (or the Leatherneck Tartan, for that matter), as they are quite sharp.

Personally, I like them both -- and think that both should be registered, woven, and worn .
The USMC Dress Blue Tartan
and
The Leatherneck Dress Tartan

Rob, that is a wonderful idea. I'm glad I thought of it. ;-)

Oh I do so hate it when I have a long post typed out and it disappears.....trying again....if a cold war E1's opinion matters any.
First - thanks for all the work in designing a beautiful and meaningful tartan that doesn't look like a designed tartan - if you know what I mean. I own a Navy Edzell tartan kilt and to me there is no similarity.
At first I wanted green and khaki in there somewhere then realized it wouldn't look so good and that's what the Leatherneck tartan already has. So this is something different to represent the dress uniform.
I really like the tartan just standing alone - as a beautiful tartan. Add that it has a meaning that honors my late DI brother and the USMC and its a winner in my mind.
You can count me in for a headcount to weave the tartan. While folks may not have a clue what it represents yet - it'll be up to the first wave of us to explain it and help it become as recognized and honored as the Leatherneck. Two seperate looks honoring the same thing. I like that.
Thanks for all the work in developing the idea - hell, thanks for thinking outside the box and having the idea.

I just found out I am NOT going to the Commandant's Marine Corps Birthday Ball this year. My company has a large contract with the Corps, and my boss thought he could fit me in the group going. Ihave not connection with the contract, and he couldn't make it work. Oh well. Steve I would still love to be able to wear a new Dress Blue Tartan Kilt to the Marine Cryptologic Support Battalion Ball this year.

I would like to thank everyone for their comments and suggestions while I was introducing this Tartan.
As you know the fabric was initially woven as a minimum yardage run in 16oz from Marton Mills. Almost all of that run are spoken for. In addition to my own, more kilts and some accessories are in the works.
I will be placing another order in the next day or two hoping to beat a Marton Mills price increase. If you would like some yardage or a kilt please speak up. I will try to keep 16oz kilt fabric in stock and hopefully in the future some 10oz for ties and accessories.
The process of getting this Tartan registered proved to be much harder than any other Tartan I have designed. Now that the design is registered and protected I can make it available to the world.
Again, thank you. To my fellow Marines, enjoy and - Semper Fi.

I'd be interested in 6 yards.

fcgeil,
Thank you for your comments. This is one of the reasons that make Tartan such a fascinating topic. One person likes one Tartan, another prefers a different Tartan. Sometimes for the same reason.
I simply cannot afford to have every Tartan I design woven. But if you wish to send Kyle the money, I'll bet he would be happy to have it woven.
