Of course, the Victorians loved all this visual joke taxidermy. No television, no radio, few board games - they had to make their own entertainment. Most of the big houses had a curiosity room where guests would stroll after dinner and marvel or laugh. I have seen fish, covered in fur, with wings; a duck with talons rather than web feet; a swan with teeth (that was scary). Times change and taxidermy has really fallen out of fashion.
This was a particularly ugly piece and one can only wonder, why would anyone want to own it?
