Sorry but Highland Regiments wore Balmoral bonnets (blue with various types of diceing) and lowland regiments wore the Kilmarnock going back to when they assumed Scottish dress in 1881 up to 1914. House of labhran is wrong. The Balmoral bonnet was worn from +_ 1950 to 1963 for regulars and 1967 for TA highland regiments after which all
except the Black watch wore the diced Glengarry. See my book " Kilts and Trews"

    dear mr northeaster

    with greatest respect

if you go on to the Offical Argyll regimental "alumni" (?) site and look up 1958 era ..you'll see under uniforms they call the bonnet a Kilmarnock . it is (today) 13" diameter (a Black Watch beign 11"+/-) accord to House of Labhran from official MOD specs ..and was red white diced ..

also the term Kilmarnock bonnet has been a very flexible term depending on the era of it being used ..
