Could I get away with this cut of jacket with some dark brown brogues and chunky charcoal kilt socks?
It is rather hard to say without seeing the whole thing in proportion with sporran etc. but I would verge on the side of "no" - if it isn't cut to go with the kilt it is likely to be too long.
If you are looking for the rather plain "modern" style of jacket then Slanj have several offerings. http://www.slanjkilts.com/Kilts-and-...-products.html
Geoffrey Tailor also seem to get some off-casts from 21st Century Kilts http://21stcenturykilts.com/section/10/1/sale-rail so you might get lucky; I mention the Glasgow shop because it is quite big so there is plenty to try on to see what suits and they are very laid back so you don't get the same pressure as in other shops.
If budget is a real issue (and you don't mind "pre-loved") and you can get over to Edinburgh then give http://www.armstrongsvintage.co.uk/ a look they have two shops with a decent selection of Kilt Gear which might throw up a gem.
I would personally steer away from the whole monochrome look; grey everything can look a tad boring. Highland wear really is a celebration in colour and pattern - don't fear it - learn to love it.
I would also personally steer away from doing anything too trendy on your wedding day; you don't want to look back in a few years time and think "what the devil was I thinking" whereas if you stick to good quality and traditional styles you will always look good.

Thanks Lime, sound advice.
I used to live round the corner from Armstrongs but haven't been inside in years. It's on the list of possible shops to try, so will call in next time I'm through. Budget isn't a huge issue, it's just I really don't think I could justify spending more than £150 on a jacket.
