My first Sgian Dubh and Sgian Brew, Bog Oak and Cherry.

    Hello All,

I've been working this last week on making a Sgian Dubh and matching Sgian Brew for my wedding with materials I purchased from Rab Gordan at www.rainnea.com. The handles are made from bog oak from Rab and Michigan cherry wood that my father harvested near my home town in southwest Michigan. The blade on the Sgian Dubh is a Damascus blade although it's a bit hard to see in the pictures, and the triskele inlay on both was taken off of tie clips that match my cuff links and kilt pin. We are using that swirl pattern as the theme for our wedding. I also made a little leather sheath for the Sgian Brew so that I can carry it in my sporran while I'm wearing my Sgian Dubh and not scratch up the sporran flask my fiancée gave me for my 40th birthday this year. The background tartan is Kennedy Modern. My mother's maiden name is Kennedy and I'll be wearing a Kennedy kilt for my wedding. We are the poor protestant Scottish Kennedy's not the rich catholic Irish Kennedy's.

I had so much fun putting these together and I really loved working with wood for the first time. I am looking forward to more projects in the future.

Very nice. I like the contrast in the two woods.
