My wife has enjoyed reading the series. I haven't read them, but I think I will pick up the first book and have a go at it.

Thanks for the heads up, Kyle.

I loved Deep Space 9 and ST:TNG. Battlestar Galactica was good. Ron Moore usually makes good shows. I shall have to give this one a go. Thanks for the heads up.

Several years ago my friend told me about Outlander, thinking I would like it since I'm interested in Scottish things.
I borrowed the audiobook from the library, but didn't get all the way through.
The thought of watching the TV series seems more appealing since I relate to things in a more visual way.

When I saw this photo for the series, I felt mesmerized. I want so much to make a ladies outfit like this one. Of course the man's attire is really nice, too. I've made several breacan feile. But something else called out to me, too. The man's tartan looks to me very much like the the MacKay Reproduction as woven by D.C.Dalgliesh. Just last week I finished making a kilt in that tartan so this photo really has a hold on me.

Here is a link to some interviews with the stars. [URL="http://www.accesshollywood.com/outlander-sam-heughan-talks-kilts-diana-gabaldon-confirms-cameo-in-starz-series_article_88650"]
Mr. Heughan seems to be confused about the length of a great kilt. "Seven or eight feet" of cloth? Even at double the usual 30" wide, that's not enough to wrap around oneself like a sleeping bag.

I am a HUGE fan of the series (seven books published with the eighth due out in July 2014)--and the unholy number of Outlander-related Facebook groups I belong really does border on ridiculous. I skimmed this thread quickly, so apologies if this information was already posted, but the lead actors are Sam Heughan (hails from Dumfriesshire, Scotland!) and Caitriona Balfe, who is a Irish former runway and editorial model. If you're interested in seeing their obvious chemistry, they've released several videos through Starz, TV Guide and Entertainment magazine outlets. They really seem to legitimately get on well with each other and have an easy rapport that I certainly hope will come through on screen.

I'm going to stop now before I really start gushing and being all weird.

To call “Outlander” a romance novel or a novel for women is verra misleading. As Gavin McNett wrote in his 1999 review of Diana Gabaldon’s first novel for Salon.com: "The Outlander series represents the smartest historical sci-fi adventure-romance story ever written by a science Ph.D. with a background in scripting 'Scrooge McDuck' comics.” source: http://www.salon.com/1999/08/12/outlander/

It is very important to Ms. Gabaldon's readers that the historical aspects of the Starz series be as accurate as possible. Nevertheless, the demands of producing a television story in the 21st century about events in the 18th may create some anomalies that may need forgiveness from those with profound knowledge of the subject matter.

I've seen the first two episodes, and I noticed the use of Doune Castle, which was also used for Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I visited the castle in 2003 and was very pleased with the renovations.

The author responds quite strongly (negatively) to her series being described as "romance." There are elements of sci fi/fantasy, historical fiction, and even mystery novels as the series progresses. Yes, there's an undeniable element of romance, but not overpoweringly so.

Kyle , this new series of Outlander looks to be great . I am familiar with Diana Gabaldon's works , although I haven't read her complete series of Outlander .

I am intrigued by this Starz series and I will definitely watch it !!

On a bit of a humorous note ... what would be Hector MacDonald's review of this new TV program ?

    Cheers , Mike
