Hello St.David, kilted missionary to Norway, spreading the good news of kilts, and you have one convert already.

I'm sure that with your enthusiasm you'll soon be joined by others.

That's how it began here, now we have the name Bravehearts Tasmania in the newspaper and we are gaining some recognition.

Excitement is infectious, life is good in a kilt!

I made my own sporran strap. When you get yours look it over. They really are pretty simple to make.

I have a project coming up. I'm going to make myself another kilt and make my wife a jumper (American definition) to match, but I'm going to modify the jumper so the skirt part resembles a kilted skirt complete with pleats. This is going to be a big project and it'll take some time.

Graham and Bubba you never cease to amaze me.

My mate is a hunter so has lots of Antlers and skin's lying around. His grandfather was a Shoemaker.

The point is that this winter we're going to sit down and make our own sporrans (My mate inherited all his grandfathers tools)We'll kick off using the patten from "So your going to wear the kilt."

I will of course be posting a report.

I have the pieces cut for another sporran that I'm making a bit differently. I'm putting a couple pockets on the back inside to hold my keysThat'll end alot of hassle with digging around for them all the time.

Way to go Freelander in getting your mate kilted, and your new winter occupation of sporrans, I see that this forum has really given you a tittle of kilted gentlemen. Don't you just love it?

I still think that anytime I wear a kilt is a special occasion. Doesn't matter to me if it is too the office, at a park, or down to the pub for a few with my friends.

I frequently read here at "X", and on other kilting forums, of chaps making their own sporrans, sporran straps, etc., and being told how easy it is to do.

But, where does one find the raw materials? I don't believe I have ever seen 'raw' leather being offered for sale, and even if I did I'm pretty sure it would be massively expensive.

    Is a puzzlement!

Hamish, you can probably buy the leather from a custom leather shop or craft shop. Check in the telephone book under leather in the yellow pages or equivalent., Buckles at craft stores, clips at any hardware store. The chunk I got was bought at an auction for $2 and was enough for 2 sporrans and 2 straps.
