I had gone on a number of kilted vacations. For a 1 week trip, I take 2 kilts and either alternate daily or day and evening. For trips longer than a week, I pack 2 and wear 1. Depending on the climate, I will choose lighter weight or heavier. Also, take along a hand steamer to get rid of wrinkles.

I live about the same latitude as Destin, have been to Destin and have lived in previous times along the Gulf coast. It will be warm (hot!), humid, and possibly breezy. Your chances of seeing another kilt are about the same as encountering a polar bear. Most people go to Destin for the beautiful beach and I assume that is your plan. In a few weeks I will be going to the beach in South Florida and I am taking one of my lighter weight, less good kilts.

Hand steamer. I didn't even think about needing one of those. Thanks for mentioning that.

On Friday we booked our cruise for this coming winter - 10 night Eastern Caribbean. I'll pack the same as I did for last winter's cruise (8 night Bahamas): a USAKilts Casual in American Heritage, which fits at my jeans waist, looks good (the kilt, not me) and is a perfect replacement for shorts or jeans; and a USAKilts 5-yard wool in Celtic Nations, which is a wonderful kilt that "dresses up" nicely.
If you are too busy to laugh, you are too busy.

Kilts travel light
Usually, as in our recent 3-day trip to Kamloops, I drive in a casual, (American Heritage or Celtic Nations) and take a semi-trad (Usually Isle of Skye) and a nice shirt and bolo tie for evening. I alternate the kilts and wear a variety of polos during the day.I include a pair of cargo shorts for running down the hall for ice.
Depending on the event, I will add the Armstrong Ancient tank or the USAF semi-trad.
A kilt and associated gear, including kilt hose, folds up nicely into a large packing cube, which then fits nicely into the Air Boss. No problems with wrinkles, either.
Enjoy Destin. The Cable Tow and the Hog's Breath are all you need for food...

Of course it will depend on what is in your closet. For me driving or flying the kilt of choice is my USA Kilts casual. Great for the airline as it has no metal. For driving it is light. Then for casual day wear I take two USA Kilts semi-trad PV kilts. If in winter, or I know I will attend some nice event that may require a nicer look, I will take one of my wool kilts. Leaving one of the PV kilts behind. This will all depend on how much suitcase space I have. Normally not an issue if I drive but is if I am flying.
What get me in trouble packing is the number of shirts and shoes I take
Have a nice trip.

I'm having a laugh here. Never once have I spent this much time contemplating "outfits" for a trip. Causal kilt from USAK will probably get the most wear; I agree that it appears it will be the most comfortable for the 13 hour drive.
Looking forward to posting a pic or two from the beaches. Now I'm off to find a travel steamer.

Kilted full time, I am on the road for a week at a time quite often. I always take 3 USA Casuals with me. Well That is until I get my 4th one.

Steamers are brilliant, especially when you've had to sit in a wet kilt or you've had made a mess of the pleats though sitting carelessly.
I would take a light five yard kilt or one of cheap PVs (expendable) and a nice 8 yard 16oz kilt for best wear.
Have a good trip. If I'm taking my car to Scotland, I've taken as many as six for 10 days.

Funny you ask. I'm in the last two days of my 1.5 week driving trip to the Northeast of the US. I brought 4 with me. (2 lightweight, 1 medium, 1 tank). When driving, wear something light and easily pressed or hung/steamed overnight to release any wrinkles. Also brought along a je@n and a sh0rt, but they never saw the light of day. Whatever you decide, enjoy yourself.
