Good for you Bonnie for taking that step!! I can remember doing that myself several years ago and working my way up to Premier. I'm probably Canada's oldest competing Premier dancer, but there's a lot of us oldsters out there so I probably won't be alone for long.
Looking forward to seeing you at a comp!

I love highland dancing and this Saturday will be my first competition. Yikes! It's a little scary, but it's for the learning experience.
I've been busy sewing a white dress for dancing the Lilt and pressing my Wallace kilt for the Fling, Sword Dance and Sean Truibhas.
Dixiecat, it's so inspiring to hear that you worked your way up to Premier!! That's so great! Wow!! I admire you!
I got a late start with highland dancing... 13 years ago. Until 2 years ago, it was performance dancing for fun. But since then, I've been taking classes with a wonderful teacher who is a premier dancer. She sets a great example with her beautiful dancing, helps a lot with technique and is very encouraging to me, even though I'm no spring chicken.

I've been dancing since 2005 and amazingly, still at it. Even with the shin splints, sprained ankles, Morton's neuroma, corns and aching bunions, I can't wait to get to dance class.
My one advice would be to take the lower levels at a relaxed pace if you can. Competing at Beginner/Novice and Intermediate is the fun time. Enjoy it, and just get the experience for competition. Premier is where the real hard work starts. I've been Premier for about 4 years and it's only this year that I've started to feel like a Premier dancer. My next goal is to do the NS Championships next April. lol, it'll probably be easier to do a marathon than 4 long step dances!
I'm sure you'll do much better than I did as you've got a few years of dancing under your belt already. Don't forget to post pics of your first trophy!
At least we don't need to ask who your kiltmaker is!
