Well, "oops" isn't what I said at the time but in the interests of keeping our forum family-friendly, it'll do ;)
I knew going in that there are hazards in presenting a work-in-progress vs a carefully edited photo story leading to the already completed item. But if it was good enough for Thomas Edison, it's good enough for me!*
*"I haven't failed, I've just discovered 10,000 things that don't work" or words to that effect.
I got to the point of folding over and top stitching the top edge of liner. Being thicker than the outer bag material, it was even less of a success -- and that's the edge that shows inside the sporran. While hemming and hawing about what to do, I compounded the issue by picking up my ink pen and marking the snap positions on the incorrect, which is to say the right/visible, side of the liner. Cue the "oops. . ."
So here's my recovery, leading to the finished product (yes! This story has an ending!)
Used my trusty template to cut two more top edge pieces from liner material and top stitched them over the ink marks (here is before and after, still have to trim away the old fold over allowance).
Sewed snaps in place. I had hoped to use my machine's button-sewing function, but it did not like the convex shape of snap so I reluctantly did this by hand. I knew it wouldn't be pretty, so used a tan thread that doesn't show up too badly against the suede liner.
Folded in and tacked the liner/gusset seam allowance.
