When I wore my kilt in San Diego last year I never heard any disparaging remarks or had any weird looks. I was wearing my casual wool kilt though. I did get my first look at a utilikilt out there , some bloke and his mates were dressed up as a bunch of fantasy type fighters. Liked the utilikilt didn't like the bloke, not friendlt at all Oh, and I never got out of the downtown area, too many women and way too much booze

It would be great if Dave W. could come with you!
We're still planning on the first 2 weeks in August for the gathering, so we get all we will plan and Kilts Night, too!
August? August, Bear? I have set September 2005 aside for my travels! Oh well, I'll just have to reschedule - not that anything has been carved in stone!!!
(But this coming Kilts Night is close and I am anticipating it eagerly!)
I had no intention of stealing any thunder from THIS September's Kilts Night with my comments, believe me. I imagine you'll be treating it as a Dress Rehearsal for next year's August event
Hamish,
I've been saying I was planning on the first two weeks of August since I learned Andrew's schedule for that time of year.
(I even corrected you when you mentioned September a couple of weeks ago.)
It's important, (and only fair), that Andrew be in town for the event because I'll be leaning heavily on the Kilts Night Regulars for their help in pulling this off.
Sorry I haven't been clearer on this. I just starting the ball rolling for the gathering today.

Graham said: "Glad you shared that, but how is it "off topic"? I would have thought your post was very much ON the topic of kilts - good reading tho' wherever you place it!"
You're right Graham, I accidentally posted under "off topic" but it looks like Hank was good enough to move it.
Bear, I'm looking forward to hoisting a few with you too. (We're talking about beers here, not hoisting dead raccoons over the railing at the waterfront, right?) It's a good thing the BIG-HAMISH-WILL-BE-HERE-KILT-NIGHT-TO-END-ALL-KILT-NIGHTS is a year away, I think I need to desensitize myself to the excitement bit by bit.
Sorry we'll miss you this time around too, Colin. Andrew, I threw in the part about Vancouver kilt night with intention that it would be hijacked, and therefore, a more interesting thread. Glad to hear you'll be there, by the way.

Now you know who's paying attention.
For the record... In San Diego, did you have any interesting verbal exchanges - ie: quips / retorts - that might be of some benefit the rest of us?

I used some of the quips from this site, but I generally prefer to intimidate and irritate rude people by acting very friendly and faking total obliviousness.
On a side note, I just realized a reason for some of the reactions in San Diego. I had grown out and waxed the ends of my moustache, and I guess I kind of looked like a pirate, haha. I clipped it off when I got back for a job interview, and people immediately seemed less uncomfortable passing me on the street.
