Casual or Traditional?

I'm sure I'll be around for a long while. Once I actually get my kilt I will probably have many more questions, most of which I can probably find answers that have already been posted here.

How was Tulsa this year? I used to go to the games in Tulsa almost every year, since I'm only 2 1/2 hours north in Springfield, but two years ago my wife & I were married on the same weekend as Tulsa!

Scottish Lion is a good company, but they do not make their kilts -- they have them made in Scotland, which is certainly not a bad thing!

My recommendations (for what it's worth):

Traditional: Hector Russell (Canadian branch)
Casual: Bear Kilts

Welcome, Jman! I haven't yet purchased from all of the kiltmakers

, but I do have a kilt from Bear. IMHO you can't beat the quality and price. There is a whole bunch of positive feedback about USAkilts as well on this site. It's where I'll be ordering my next (Duncan) kilt from next week! Rocky & Kelly, are you listening?

One place no one mentioned yet is www.scottishkilts.net . Their prices aren't bad at all and they have a pretty fast turnaround time compared to the others. I bought my MacNeil from them and I'm very satisfied with it. As for the 4 vs 8 yard question, knowing what I know now, I'd opt for the 8 yard for the first kilt.

If you have not done so already, I would suggest that you take a look at Bearkilts. He has a very nice assortment, good workmanship and, of course, good prices.

For example, with out closer inspection, my Gordon and Maple Leaf tartans in PV have as good a look as my wool Lochcarron. And, upon closer inspection they are of the same quality of workmanship.

Non-Wool Kilts are also very easy to take care of. Bear's PV kilt is definately a wash and wear kilt. No Ironing is required.

I'm going Tartan, MacDonald of Clanranald.

Tulsa was a blast, this was my third year going and probably my favorite even though it was a bit on the hot side.

Thank you all for the suggestions of the different sites, I will be checking all of them out before I make my decision.

Good man! You won't regret it, and the Clanranald tartan is quite striking.

Tulsa was always hot, save 1999 when it was fairly rainy and cold. I think that was the last year I went, if memory serves me correctly.

Some friends of mine from Ft. Smith, Arkansas, went this year and sent some great pictures of the First Nations Veterans Colour Guard at the opening ceremonies.
