If you want to save money on your vest, try going to Thrift Stores. They often has some good selections as it is not really fashionable to wear vest with suit these days. You may be able to get a vintage style.

i ve to join first gmen and casey.
then i don t know exactly what a dancecoming is. so when formal attire needed i m not the guy u should ask. i suppose white shirt with dark jacket at all.
in less formal occasion i wear my blackwatch almost with dark shirts, dark blue. i like black hose more than whites. and, i don t know what i have, but i almost wear my hose dropped down to the boots. mom says it would be better to pull them up; i ve to get the taste... my belt is only worn when formal is required. then even my tie would be black.
as i like the look of the chain strap, i wear my sporran with chain, what espacially on dark tartans looks amazing. thats just me.

I have no idea what a Homecoming Dance is; whether it's formal or not, but as everyone else has suggested, a plain white shirt always looks the business. If the event is informal then there's no need for a jacket or waistcoat - but, you really should wear a belt. It just adds the finishing touch.
If there is any formality to the event, then you should cover the shirt with a jacket or waistcoat. The black tie would work well, but a plain dark green or navy blue one would be better, as long as it matches one of the kilt colours.
The kilt hose should be oatmeal or off-white (PLEASE, not pure white!) with black shoes.
You could always go for a Jacobite shirt in cream or white - that would look pretty stunning and you would not need to worry about a tie, no matter whether it's a formal event or not.

no belt needed, and a black tie will look good.
I've said it b4, take a pic of you werin different things, then look at yourself as others see you.
if it was me, for a formal look I WOULD wear a propper kilt belt.but for the after party, no need.

And here comes the post dance report....
I got all dressed up (I'll post pics when I get 'em) in my kilt and such and strode right on into the gym. I turned a bunch of heads walking in and several of the adults complemented me on the kilt. All the kids I knew thought it was the coolest thing they had ever seen. Now, my friends had been giving me a good ribbing when we got together before the dance, but a few of them changed their minds about me wearing a "skirt" after the attention I was getting. Random girls (good looking, I might add) came up and just asked for pictures with me . A guy from either the yearbook or newspaper came up and took a photo of me, so look out for that in a little while, we'll see what comes of that. I had shouts of nice kilt and how "hot you look in the kilt" I had more than a few offers of dances from the girls, and all in all had a fabulous night.
I dont really get paid much attention to usually, but the kilt, as always, is chick magnet. I also happened to be the only one not sweating my b@lls off (If you'll excuse the pun ) in the overcrowded gym.
Kilted life is great!!!
