The photo I posted is apparently a native born and raised Scot. On the site he says that this is "his" kilt and not a rental. There are other photos of him in the same kilt. He also says that he is a former member of the military and shows a photo of himself in uniform.

He posted this as how he dresses formally for a Burns Dinner. When I found this photo he had gotten 21 "Great looking outfit" and "Nice" comments. Mostly from other other Scots as this was posted to a Scottish kilt site.

Is there any clue of where this chap hails from, Steve?

Please, please, please don't let him be from the Highlands!

Burnett’s and Struth have these in medium size on sale for $85.00 Canadian, that’s roughly $60.00 U.S. or about £50.00.

They also mention that they have medium sized diced hose at sale price but they don’t specify.

That's a hell of a deal. Wish they were large.

For me it's a solid darker coloured hose that compliments my kilt. Not black, but I have a dark navy pair for one kilt, and then a nice lovet green for another kilt.

Lol, it would be great if he was, however I suspect that is not the case.

As a military man he should be aware of how hideous a beer gut sticking out between waistcoat and lower garment looks (it's acceptable towards the end of a long night, but not at the start), but some of us never learn.

    Just for curiosity

Thank you for replying to my post I always look forward to what Jock and Steve have to say because they are so knowledgeable but I find that there are quite a lot of you who have loads of information and advice to give which is great. I was brought up by a highland father but even so I slip up, always a learning curve plus my wife makes sure I look right with a ladies eye. I personally don't wear diced or Argyll I wear tartan cuffs on solid colour.

I don't own argyle socks, mainly because I can't justify the expense for something I would rarely wear. I have black (probably reserved for funerals) charcoal (dark grey in one of my kilts), lovat blue, lovat green, blood red (burgundy) , bottle green and a sort of khaki.

I tend end to wear socks that completely contrast my kilt or at least are not the same as the main colour of my kilt. In full blown formal wear argyle look good but so do many one colour socks, of my selection My preferred choice for more formal events would be my blood red hose just because they are my favourites.

My hose are part merino wool and were purchased off eBay for around 15 a pair, at that price you can pick a couple of colours and mix and match for different events.

P.S. Just did a quick search, socks were Glenbeg, cost £15.95
