Pictures of ancient or weathered red kilts anyone?

Hi everyone,

I'm considering having a kilt made in either Ancient or Weathered red colours, e.g. MacDonald of the Isles, MacDonald of Sleat, Cameron, Fraser, Bruce, Maxwell or MacIntosh tartans.

If you have pictures of kilts in any of these tartans (or other red ones...) I'd greatly appreciate seeing them!

See the photo below of my Maxwell kilts below, from top to bottom: Ancient (very orange-y!), Modern, Muted, Hunting.



Perhaps one of the days I'll get a Weathered Maxwell, but like the Hunting, it'd be a custom weave, so that's not likely to happen anytime soon!

Of the four, I wear the Ancient the least as it's a bit too orange for my taste these days... (It was my first kilt)

Here's my Fraser Red Ancient kilt from Lochcarron's 13oz range.



One would be forgiven for mistaking the red for orange, but I quit like it.


Here's my Fraser Hunting Weathered, from Lochcarron's 16oz range.



While the field is brown, not red, perhaps you can get a feel for the weathered red from the stripe - more of a pink than an orange.

Edit: Since Figheadair mentioned muted colors as well, I figure I'd share a third photo, my Fraser of Lovat Muted, Wilson's Colors, from Marton Mills' 16oz range.



While Wilson's colors may differ a bit from the standard "Muted" palate (if there is such a thing), you'll note the red is a bit deeper, the green is a dusty olive, and the blue is a very dark navy - almost black.

I think you mean MacDonald, Lord of the Isles (which is the MacDonald of Sleat with a black stripe), rather hthan MacDonald of the Isles which is the blue, black and green sett.

Have you considered Muted colours too?

Thanks figheadair. Yes, I meant MacDonald, Lord of the Isles. I already have a kilt in the MacDonald of the Isles modern hunting colours, pleated to the white stripe, and it is one of my favorites. I like muted colours, but the vast majority of muted tartans are 13 oz from House of Edgar, and I prefer a heavyweight kilt.
