Maybe the principal has no principals, or perhaps he's a closet kilt wearer and is insecure

Tucker Carlson on MSNBC just covered the story. He stood up for the kid, stating he was Scottish too.
Went on to say some nice things about the kilt too.

Heres some comments on a pipeing forum about the situation, bear in mind that pipe bands have very strict dress codes (and stricter pipe majors) so a lot of comments are about Nathans "accessories" I must admit that his choice of footwear and socks are a little informal for a dance. I cant help wondering if the principal might have been a little more open minded if Nathan had been wearing a PC and appropriate hose/shoes sporran

again bear in mind that pipe band members are very strict on dress, they arent the tartan police.

From reading the comments, it would seem that a couple of the posters there think they are... but that 's fine - they have a right to their opinions.
You know... whenever discussions take place in a controlled environment between like minded individuals, the concensus opinion will be skewed at best. We shouldn't lose sight of the fact that it's possible that Principal McClard has just as much support as Nathan Warmack. Simply because contrary opinions don't last long on this forum doesn't mean they don't exist - something to be aware of.
Thanks for posting that Daz.

At this point, Nathan only owns a kilt. There is a movement afoot to help him get the rest of a formal kit before the Senior Prom.

Like ive stated earler I dont think his ooutfit as worn on the photograph is suitable for a formal dance, I know hes just starting out etc. but he would have been better waiting until he had the full monty before attening what was made clear to be a formal ocasion, if he were to turn up to a burns supper or clan dinner in Scotland he would have been taken to one side and advice offered, I would under no circumstances support a ban on the wearing of the kilt but I think a little more research would have been appropriate on how to wear the kilt at a formal occasion, If Nathan had been wearing a PC and correct accesories I cant help wondering if Principal McClard would have been a little more flexible.

A lot of that would depend on what the other boys were wearing. If they were all also in coats and ties, though with pants that might be a good arguement.
If, as I suspect, many were attired exactly as Nathan was except with long pants then that argument doesnt hold weight.
