Id be temmpted to go for the ghillies, no point in spoiling the ship for an ha'p'orth of tar!!

As far as hats go, here in Scotland at weddings only the piper would wear a hat !! id leave well alone !
another tip dont wear your kilt too high!!! it really spoils the look of the outfit

My tartan kilts are all traditional cut with full rise. The shirt won't show but the kneecaps will!

    Howdy,
I'm here just to give my two cents as my Father and I have been involved in weddings for quite a long time. (We're those guys at the back of the church that just stand there that nobody ever notices) Anyways, my comment is about the sgian dubh. It would be absolutely proper to ask the minister/priest permission and don't be surprised if no is the answer as it is an unwritten rule that weapons (show or otherwise) are not allowed in the Lord's house. I've dealt with military, police and plenty of Scottish/Celtic weddings in the past where there is an area disignated for the "keeping" of the weapons. The surprising thing is at 90% of the kilted weddings the men ask for an area to "lay down their arms" on a traditional standpoint.

    Anywho, do what you want.

    Cheers,
    T.R. Matthews

I would prefer to be dressed as authentic as possible. But if the real thing is deemed inappropriate, I'll wear a fake. It would simply be second little secret of highland attire. I'll have something in my sock.

    sgain dubh & the kirk...

When Page & I were married in 2002, our priest had no problems with my sgain dubh, since it is part of the attire. I'm sure he would not have approved a basket hilt or dirk, but I wouldn't have worn one anyway, since it would violate the sacred & ancient right of hospitality of a church.

    Cheers,

    Todd
