In his latest book, Al Frankin said that he's going to start carrying 3 baseballs with him, in order to thwart terrorists!
Great satire. We have gone overboard. I can say with certainty, that the last time I went through heathrow, kilted, mind you, that I could have easily had a good chunk of platique strapped to my nether regions and no-one would have been the wiser. What's more, is I had a back pack loaded with books that could have been explosive materials, that was just recieved a cursory look.
Basically, if we want true security, we need to look at the roots of the problem, not the outcome. Why are people attacking? What are their goals? If you are weiring a sgian dubh, chances are, you're not going to attempt a 3 state killing spree. Zero tollerence just dumbs down the world and the justice system, like mandatory minimums, but there I go again.

With how dumb the world leaders are making us, it is only a matter of time before we destroy ourselves. If you look in history, all great civilizations that became to big and dumbed everyone down, destroyed themselves. It's sad, but anarchy always brings us back to the beginning, we start over with next to nothing and rise only to bring distruction all over again. I'm not saying I am all for this but it's only a matter of time before civilizations fall. Hopefully we smarten up before this happens.

And you may ask yourself, Well how did I get here?

Sure, here it is -- we call it the 'Scots Army Knife' (though it's not really a military piece):

It has polished pewter fittings with an etched steel blade and comes with a Scottish or Irish clan/surname crest or a generic crest (thistle, etc.). It costs $150.00. It's actually a pretty cool gadget! Let me know if you want one!

Ahhhhh. Now that's lovely. Bit rich for my blood right now, but I'll put it on my wish list. Is it available with a black sheath?
and totally unrelated, how do you get the picture in the post? I tried earlier and failed. v. frustrating
Thanks, Les

Glad you like it! It is a bit expensive, I guess because of the extra features. Maybe if you drop a few hints, you might get it for your birthday!
I don't know if we can get it with a black sheath, but I'll ask the manufacturer.
To insert a picture in a post, put (img) before the URL of the image location and (/img) after the URL, but instead of parentheses, use straight brackets like [.

Why bother.
I agree with what seems to be the majority opinion here. Wearing a sgian dubh is usually more trouble than it is worth. I own 2 sgian dubhs and have only worn one of them and that was at my wedding.
Each one cost over $100 and are far less useful than my $30 folder. They do make good letter openers thou. My advice is that unless you are at a private function think twice about wearing a sgian dubh, traditional or not.
