59 kilts?!?!... WOW... I don't have 59 of anything, not even socks or t-shirts. I had the impression that you had quite a few, but WOW, 59!?! You could wear one a day for 2 months and not worry about repeating!! I can only assume then that you must "collect" them the way others collect coins or stamps. Do you have some mounted and preserved behind glass; some imbued with special values?... like a rare Kilt worn by a famous celeb or one woven with gold thread?

Actually, Ian, all the kilts worn in the film of "Brigadoon" had gold threads woven into the tartans - but I have none of those!!

Yes, I suppose I do collect kilts, but I acquire them only if I can wear them myself - roughly 92% of my 'Kilt Kollection' consists of garments tailored expressly to fit me. The remainder are 'off-the-peg' purchases such as Utilikilts, UnionKilts, Amerikilts, etc. I have no interest in collecting other kilts simply because they might be historical items or because they once belonged to a celebrity. My kilts are MY kilts. Some of them are of slightly greater importance to me for varying reasons. For example, my very first Utilikilt (now archived) was one of the first ever Utilikilts and was made by Steven Villegas himself; I also have the very first leather Utilikilt to be sold (numbered, dated and signed by Steven); several of my "TFCK" kilts are unique because of the fabrics I selected and my last kilt from Geoffrey (Tailor) was the first to be made in their new corporate tartan: Grey Thistle Dubh.

With the kilts must come the accessories, of course, so I have a number of Argyll jackets in different tweeds, casual leather jackets and Evening Dress jackets and doublets in different styles, twelve sporrans, a number of formal and informal belts in black and brown, eight pairs of shoes and boots from which to choose, numerous pairs of kilt hose, flashes and neckties to match virtually any kilt, and so on.

To many, this might seem to be something of an over-stocked wardrobe, but this is a 'living' collection - garments and accessories to be worn daily according to my activities and my mood at the time. I believe too, that if one is going to appear in public dressed 'unconvenionally', then one MUST present the smartest, cleanest and tidiest image possible. It is far, far better to be complimented for looking good than it is to be laughted at for looking a mess - not so much from my point of view but from the point of view of the lasting memory taken away by those who happen to see that guy in the kilt!!

Or is it just some odd O.C.D. type thing?

Now the $64000 question: if we unfolded/unpleated/unwrapped all of Ham's kilts and put them end-to-end, how far would we get?

Somewhere just short of a quarter of a mile, I imagine!!

46 Pairs of Pants! For crying out loud, man, did you have one for every thirty minutes of the day. ;)

I took about 13 pairs of pants to the thrift store about 2 years ago. I've got one pair, but its not for wearing. I keep them around for sentimental reasons because I got married in them and you can't really get rid of that, can you?

4 outdoor cargo trousers...I use them at work.
4 lightweight summer trousers...mostly for playing golf.
5 casual/semi dress trousers.
2 mermuda trousers.
1 all weather/winter golf trousers.
3 suits.
1 tuxido.
2 jogging pants.

I'll probably won't become a full time kilter, but the suits and the tuxido will go and I won't replace all the trousers when their time has come.

"O.C.D." is a popular american term borrowed from the medical field. It stands for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It was an attempt at being funny. I am sure your obsession is not a "disorder" at all.

Many thanks, Ian, for the explanation - I'd not heard that one before. No, I sincerely hope I am not suffering from O.C.D., although maybe one cannot recognise it in oneself!

Been making space in the wardrobe today for the kilts I have ordered which will increase my kilt inventory from three to six. Cleared out some old trousers which are either badly worn and which I have binned or which no longer fit and which will be going to a thrift shop tomorrow. This leaves me with 7 pairs of trousers, of which 2 form part of business suits, 4 smart casual, and 1 scruffy pair for wearing around the house and garden. I also have some shorts at the back of a cupboard which I will wear again in summer. So trousers 7, kilts 6.

EEEEeeek! Ron, what are you DOING to me? At 58 kilts, 59 from 14th Jan., I have slowed down to a point where you are likely to catch up with me! This is an intolerable situation in which I can see I'll have to cancel my plans to have the house redecorated this spring! I must splash out on new kilts, not paint, to maintain my position and reputation! Have pity, man!

Oooh.....Ham and Ron are going to have a throwdown fight over this one....I'm just going to sit in the corner and watch this one...

14 kilts, mostly UK's but there is a stillwater and a sportkilt in the mix too. At least one more UK and maybe 5 more Stillwaters will be coming in the next year or so.

As for pants I have

4 pairs dress pants
1 pair blue jeans
1 pair athletic pants
2 pair swimtrunks
1 pair shorts
1 pair bike shorts

I need to the dress pants for work so those have to stay, though I find I really only wear three of the four, and thats even more like two of the three so maybe that will go down a bit.

The jeans only get worn if I am going somewhere casual where for some reason the kilt is not a good idea. VERY rarely worn now.

The athletic pants are for my martial arts class, as I have found trying the moves in the kilt to be rather compromising in some cases.
The swimtrunks and bike shorts are self explanatory, and the shorts go over the bike shorts when I ride. Otherwise its all kilts all the time.

Yep, I'm a clothes horse. But I think that its time to say 'neigh' to pants :rolleyes:
