Muchas Gracias!!!!
Really, thanks for this thread, man, I'm one of those who just don't have a drop of scottish blood. Even that I bought my kilt and weared it proudly.
I am one of those who discovered here that my kilt is not at all "a tank". It is almost black, and no way it's an 8 yards. Even I can suspect if it's an 9 oz.,... although James Pringle says it's pure wool,... and it's warm enough for our mediterranean mild temperatures. Even that I'm proud of wearing it
I am one of those that discovered here there's a tartan over there suitable to be used as "my tartan", and with that, I get the dream of having some day that dreamed kilt, an 8 yards, pleated to the line,13 or 16 oz. pure wool kilt on the Valencia tartan. It will cost me a fortune, and maybe years,... but I know it will be mine some day. And I want that to feel proud again.
One more time.... thanks for making me feel proud, man.
¡Salud!

I think I might qualify - as it is 3.25am and I've been sewing/pressing kilts all evening/night and thinking how nice they look now they are getting close to being finished.
Now they are hung up to settle the pleats and what do I do - go to read X marks...

The way I see it, I have so far purchased 3 genuine 8 yard traditional kilts which, looking at dollar for dollar value, would probably be worth 15 or more cheap kilts. I would much rather have the quality than the quantity. There is a huge difference! I own a couple of cheap kilts and they are OK... but I see them as more of a novelty item. As a starter kilt or a knockabout they're fine. But if you own 5 or more cheapies, you could have had the Real McCoy.

I completely agree Alan!!!! When I first came to this forum, I got caught up in the "must get more" attitude. You soon find out though that you can only wear one at a time, and that if you are not a full time kilt wearer (like Hamish, Ron, Graham, Bear, etc) than there is no real point to buying as many kilts as possible. I wear kilts anywhere from 3 days a week to once every 3 weeks. So it doesn't make sense for me to buy a new kilt every month.
Personally I would rather have my one really nice traditional in my family tartan, a nice casual kilt in my mother's tartan, and a lounging lightweight kilt for home. Of course I am hoping to make a traditional style kilt this year as well. Sure there are several tartans that I would love to own, but at this point I am actually getting rid of two good kilts (hopefully?!?) simply beacuase I don't wear them.

Neither did I. The only race I'm in is getting rid of pants. :-D
