Reading through this thread brings to mind another of the great things about kilts- There are enough styles and colors to fit anyones taste.

I'm currently working on a MARPAT camo kilt. At first I wasn't crazy about any camo kilt. But then I saw a few pics here and the rugged look of them
put them up a notch on my list.
Camo is coming back in style as casual wear. I saw loads of 30 something guys wearing camo cargo shorts.

Camo Kilts
I have two in wooland camo--a UK original and a Sportkilt Boulder. The SK is lighter in the sense it has less yardage in the kilt, but the UK is made of a rip-stop type material that is very like the utilities that were part of the Vietnam-era style.
It is that Vietnam connection that attracted me to the woodland camo; it feels almost like a "clan tartan" for Vietnam veterans. This feeling is also what holds me back from getting one in one of the desert or other modern patterns, as I don't feel that I "rate" them, not being part of the "warrior clan" that is wearing them now.

No offense intended here, but... bugger that! I want one in what ever digital camo pattern I can lay hands on for under $20/yard. And that includes the forthcoming USNavy camo:

And the more I see it, the more I want some of the Army's new digital stuff.

I'm against them. I had one once ,but it got lost in the woods, and I couldn't see it. The pesky thing just blended into the woods

Personally, I know nothing at all about the various camouflage designs or their origins, but I am proud to have two Camo kilts in my 'Kollection'. Apart from two years' National Service conscription back in the 1950s, I have had no connections with the military or armed forces - even during those two years, I was not given the opportunity to wear camouflage, but I love wearing it now! Not that I really feel that any kilt is more 'masculine' than another, I do believe that camouflage fabric immediately presents a slightly more 'butch' appearance than many others we use in our kilts.
There are some who might say that only the younger chaps in our kilted ranks can get away with wearing camo but, at 69 3/4 years, I think I do too!!
The two that I have are:
1) The Utilikilt's Nightwatch, and
2) this one from our very own KiltStore.net which I refer to as my "Green Camo" kilt:

It is a full 8 yarder, has a wonderful swing - but is inclined to crease badly and requires much ironing. That is a small price to pay, however, for such a quality kilt!
It came with the matching sporran which, I believe, in this instance is much more appropriate than a plain leather one.

I'm still looking for the penguin to go on my snow camo kilt Josh, it'll turn up someday .... (jonesing for penguins just sounds so wrong).
Sad to see Jeff is trapped by the programming monster but a man's got to make a living.
Maybe Alan H. will do tiger striped pleats ...
CT - devils kanyon kilt kompany (Dr. Phil is gonna slap me if I don't stop)

Oh, so it does - I almost missed that - hard to see, ya know.
And I agree with you on the butch thing. I think the pattern runs interference on people's expectations in the urban jungle.

I don't think cammo kilts look any worse than cammo pants or shirts. Now having said that I don't get wearing cammo just around town either, sepicially since I think most cammos are ugly. However, if you like them who am I to tell you different?
