You know.....I told my friends that I found something that I would enjoy, that might be fun, that would get me away from the computer and out with people.

You would think they would be happy for me.

Instead, all they can say is, OH YOU CAN'T WALK OUTSIDE IN A KILT!!! WHAT WILL PEOPLE THINK?!?!?!

Your friends may think they're trying to help you, but they're just projecting their own fears onto you.

The truth is, the majority of people won't even care. They've got their own concerns.

Of those that notice, most won't even look twice. They may or may not like it, but who cares; you're the one wearing it and it's your body.

You may get some questions about the kilt. Read the threads here and you should be more than knowledgable about the subject. Oh, and be ready for "The question".:rolleyes:

You could very well get some good natured joking. Just accept that and laugh along.

If you do encounter the occasional idiot, just ignore them. They're not worth your time.

Just get out there! Once you take that first step, it's much easier. We've all had that first time and we all made it through.

Thanks for that, Caradoc. I have never seen them - the films or TV shows - as I am not 'into' science-fiction per se.

I don't know about that happening on the forum... most of the people I've met here were wearing kilts before they got here, and this just ... expanded their horizons.

That said, I've met a few people in reenactment situations who thought it would be totally cool to wear a kilt, then chickened out and went English.

Step 2.5 Learn quickly to detect the un-announced kilt check, and respond appropriately based on your own mood, level of 'attachment', and the shapeliness of the would-be kilt checker.
