My apologies for being slow to thank you all for your kind replies and questions.
The PM, John Howard is coming to a city near us, I'm not travelling to Canberra.
We were invitied to a dinner also, but at $150 a ticket....well, I'm not THAT keen to meet him
The afternoon tea is only $15 pp.
The invitation came from a local MP, Mark Baker. I had invited him to a ceilidh I organised for Tartan Day, he came and had a really good time.
No, I'm not affiliated with any political party, but I do respect Mr.Howard greatly (while not agreeing with all his policies), I think he's the best PM we've had for many years. He is a strong and moral person who is not afraid to make unpopular decisions, he is certainly a friend of the US, and he is a gentleman.
To wax political for a moment, I might say that previous leaders in recent years have tried hard to associate Australia with Asia, whereas Mr Howard has done much to return us to our historic links with the US, UK and Europe, he is a monarchist and respects Her Majesty, the Queen. In doing this he in effect (as I see it) returns us to our celtic roots.
I must admit that a motivating reason to accept the invitation was connected to having an opportunity to promote the kilt and celtic culture.
Dress is smart casual, I may not wear a jacket and tie, I will try for a photo opportunity and post it if successful.

I promised a report on the meeting with our PM!
Well it happened today. After a brief address there was tea served and Mr.Howard mingled with the people. Our paths crossed on two brief occassions, he noticed the kilt but said nothing, I only had time to briefly express an appreciation for his leadership and that was it.
He did pose for a photo which turned out a bit fuzzy, and here it is.

The PM...
Graham, thanks for sharing the photo -- I've always liked Mr. Howard, from what I've seen of him on the TV.
Cheers,
Todd
