This question has been floating, apparently unanswered, for nearly two years.

I'll ask it again, on another's behalf: any guesstimates on yardage required?

I think a yard should do it. Maybe less.

    Hi sydnie7,

I did some number crunching. If my numbers are correct, cutting a 36" by 36" square of fabric on the diagonal will give you about twenty-five inches to work with on each leg. So, you would need to measure the leg length to see if that will be enough. There should be scraps left over to work with as well.

I am thinking of adding a cuff, so that would be the sett size plus allowances.

    Agreed.

I've sewn these before and about one square yard per is needed. When you cut fabric on the bias it really eats up fabric and there'll be scraps left over no matter what.

Sew your prototype outta scrap fabric to get your pattern adjusted to fit your own legs. Once made, these are actually quite comfortable.

    Slainte yall,

Thanks folks, that's the info I was looking for (especially the "true life adventures"). Guess this thread can go back to sleep

Looking at Matt's instructions, wouldn't that seam down the bottom of your foot (and right up the back of your heel) be uncomfortable?

The pattern link seems to show a more complicated but perhaps better constructed version, with an attached sole.

Comments or feedback about comfort from anybody who has actually worn them?

I'm wondering about a spat style -- kind of like the shortened version posted a ways above -- with elastic around the foot arch to hold it in place. Wear a short sock underneath.

I think Mat's instructions are for footless cadadh. I've read other instructions that say to avoid a seam on the bottom of the foot because it is very uncomfortable. I would think so.
