hmm Thanks for all the advice. Ill toss the black or green around in my head for a while and buy one or the other once all my Christmas shopping is done with.

Well as far as SWK goes I can't speak for quality yet .. but the price is certainly right. I just placed an order for an acrylic Black Watch, matching flashes and a leather sporran for $115 including shipping. Doesn't get cheaper than that. I would have preffered wool, but I needed cheap.

I've seen almost entirely good feedback about SWK on this forum.

If you're going to Franklin NC, don't forget to stop by the Scottish Tartans Museum for a wealth of information on kilts, tartans, and the wearing thereof. Matt Newsome, the curator, is a frequent poster here and and acknowledged expert.

I have the SWK saffron and like it very much. The shadow pattern is fairly visible but shows up better depending on angle and light. The swing is good and a couple of Soldiers that worked for me expressed interest in kilt wearing after seeing that kilt and the swing. I'll probably be getting the SWK Heavy Weight Black Watch after the holidays. I got my leather goods from the Scottish Tartan Museum and the quality and service were excellent.

Rocky offers a handmade custom kilt for 110 dollars. Thats pretty freaking reasonable.

Cheap and good quality are mutually exclusive features of (not just) kilts. High expense does not guarantee a good kilt but cheap, save perhaps some vintage item from a jumble sale (with luck), means cheap. Alone the price of "good" materials, excluding labour, makes cheap impossible.
That does not say that one can't get a fun kilt for little money. The marketplace in Sialkot (Pakistan) is filled with not just footballs but kilts. Not good but fun and quite cheap ( 8 yard woolen kilts are around $25 USD in low volume).

Sialkot sounds like an interesting place to visit. Is it easy to get into and out of by surface transport from India?
