Sounds like the magic smoke escaped.
(All computers run on magic smoke. This is provable by the fact that when the magic smoke is let out of the box the computer stops working.)

Common trouble codes:
MSE = Magic Smoke Escaped
SCFF = Stupidium Containment Field Failure
DEU = Defective End User
PEBCAK = Problem Exists Between Chair And Keyboard

I've come to the conclusion that it doesn't matter how smart you are in any given field - very few things will let you screw things up like sitting behind a keyboard.
Except maybe a combination of handguns and tequila...

Something really weird happened to me last night!
Around 10 pm not only the broadband stopped working but I had no phone line either!
Still wasn't working this morning so I used my mobile to phone and report a fault and the phone company said they couldn't send anyone out until tomorrow morning!
So I tried something, I disconnected the microfilter and plugged the phone straight into the socket - it worked!
I put the microfilter back in - nothing.
I switched off the broadband modem itself and left it for a minute then reconnected it to the power. I then unplugged the broadband line from the microfilter so it was only carrying the phone line which still worked. I then reconnected everything, rebooted the computer and the router and I was back in business!
I then had to call the phone company back and cancel the repair call.
Weird, the only thing I can think of would be a build up of static, we had a thunder and hailstorm a couple of nights ago but didn't seem to affect anything then.

McClef, I had a similar problem with the computer itself several months back, We had a thunderstorm, and when I got home, my computer was locked up on one of the reboot sequence screens. I could tell there had been a power failure because of the blinking clocks on the oven, coffee maker, and microwave. I pushed the reboot button and nothing happened, so I shut the machine down, waited 2 minutes and powered it up again. It posted and started booting. then it rebooted on its own. It did this several times, so, on the advice of my daughter, I turned it off and unplugged the power cord. I left it unplugged for 30 minutes, plugged it back in and powered it up. It booted and worked normally after that. In the Navy, as an Electronics tech, we had a term for problems like this, WE said that "the Gremlins had gotten into the equipment" Computers seem to get major Gremlin infestations some times.. So I want to add one more computer acronym:
MGI = Major Gremlin Infestation
